Back with a Vengeance!

Sometimes I get bummed out when I see doll folks doing stuff I'm doing or what I've talked about doing. But I've come to realize that whether they are better than me or a pale imitation, whether they are intentionally copy-catting or just part of the collective consciousness, my voice in the doll world is unique. And me being absent leaves a void that some usurper is going to fill. Without me, where would your dolls know where to get the good drugs and whores? (hee)

So I'm back basically. I'm working on a real post with the projects I've been working on, so sit tight. This weekend I'll post something.

Fun News:

  • The Hubs and I are sharing a studio space now, so lots of space for noise and chemicals. YAY!
  • Two Barbies are on their way!
  • I have a stay-cation coming up so I might finally have time to work on the photostories surrounding the wedding. Stay tuned!
  • The website is being updated:  It's basically changing every day until I am happy with it.
Missed you!

  1. Whohoo! I've missed the antics of your dolls, espicially Hanna. Glad your back!

  2. Thanks Verona! Oh man, Hanna has one devil of a story line coming up. What are we going to do with her? I'm sorry I'm not following your blog. I am going to remedy that immediately!

  3. I can't wait to see! Admittedly, I don't always comment, but I have read every single one ever since I became a follower! I've always loved how you had whole families of dolls... and they're organized that way.... I don't know why, but with my guys it just doesn't seem likely to happen (unless they start making parents for all these unruly kids...) So I LOVE seeing yours set up like that.

    1. Wow, thanks Heather! I am a lurker too. I wish this place had "Like" buttons. It means a lot when a lurker makes a comment like this. Thank you so much!

  4. YAY!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so glad you're back! I need my Grandville fix. ;)

    1. Coming soon my love!!! I swear I just sit around all day daydreaming about possibilities for story lines!!! I wish there was more time in the day!

  5. Oh you KNOW how excited this makes me! (^_^) *hugs* *insert happy dance here*

    1. I'm excited to be back. I found myself with those giddy feelings like when you meet a new boy and you're all optimistic and starry eyed! My boyfriend, the blog.

  6. Wow, I really should have put money down on my last comment on your blog. I could have started a whole "pool" to have people guess how long it would take before you returned. Sorry that's the business, money-making me talking. Glad to see you are coming back to us!

    1. I knew there would be at least one "I told you so" !:)

  7. Applause. You can't keep a good blogger down ;-D

  8. YEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! Wellcome back Dani!!! I really love the new design of the blog <3 Can't wait for your next works :D
    *bear hugs*

  9. Wow, thanks guys! A new post is coming soon-ish!

  10. Ok, for some reason you are not showing up on my blog list!:( You're the 3rd person now! I am sorry I miss you come back but I'm glad you are back! I have to read the rest of your post!

    1. That happens to me a lot to Ms. Leo. Blogger needs to get it together!

The Arrival of Kala

My first first-hand BJD has arrived!  She's a Dollmore Keeley Sum purchased through Denver Doll Emporium. She arrived with a broken foot joint so DDE is getting Dollmore to send me another. It was fairly distressing to open the package to THAT surprise, but she's so beautiful, she immediately captured my heart.

I recently made arrangements to sell Sunnie and I can see it is totally for the best. THIS is what a new bjd owner should feel. Something like maternal pride, an obsessive need to care for her.

Her working name is Kala (not Eden anymore). We'll talk about her back story in another post but for now, all you need to know is she's an early Neolithic woman. Here she is wearing a wig by D. Resin on Flickr. She's amazing.

This is Kala's stuff I've been collecting.

Here is a size comparison of the Dollmore Model F body and the older Dream of Teen by Dream of Doll body.

You know me, peeps, I have a need to make doll environments as strongly as my need to h…

So Where Were We?

Hello my friends!

Man I have been slacking. I got so into the Roku situation that I have completely neglected the dolls. And since my car died and I now have a car note, my insane doll shopping spree is at a close. Except I found the 1960s Reading Deluxe Dream Kitchen (minus table and chairs) at a thrift store for $35. Then there was this cute pitcher there (on the dishwasher) and a Gibson guitar, so...(forgive the cellphone pic).

Anyway I hope to getting back to a craft/diorama focus in my doll work.

Can I be honest? I am terrified of my camera. I've avoided it since my last post. Setting up lights takes forever and changing them for every scene and the cords and the scary wiring in this house. Then taking 100 pics and those being all wrong and doing it again after I already took down all the damn lights. Ugh.

So whatever. When I do a glamour shot I'll fiddle with lighting and post production. But for photostories, eff it.

The following shots are done with a flash and auto-f…

BJD: Vinyl to Resin

So I think people really wants to know why I am taking this plunge, or maybe you don't give a crap but I'm going to tell you anyway.

Maturity: Not saying that 1/6th folks aren't mature!!! But there is something very mature about the BJD hobby that is populated with so many young people. Depending on the company or customizations, you may have to wait up to forty effin' weeks. That is how long it takes to make a human. It takes patience. And you're going to take time to make the right choice. I'm resigning myself to not seeing my first doll until my bday in November. The dolls and accessories are not always cheap. You have to budget yourself, save up and earn that dang doll. You need a gentle touch when you're handling these dolls. You can't afford to damage them. They make special travel cases for them! Dropping them could mean seriously damaging a nose. They yellow in time and if you keep them in the sun. You have to find a place to keep them safe.(Crap…
