New Doll Room

My husband, the DJ recently showed me this video:

He knew I'd love it because of my love of Roma (gypsy) culture, especially the music.

But something else inspired me. At about 0:42 you see a bohemian style apartment with huge windows. I'm not sure if this was the direct inspiration, but it immediately made think of La Boheme (or if you're unfamiliar, think of Christian's apartment in Moulin Rouge or maybe the loft apartments in Rent, the movie).

As doll people it seems we're all a little in love with Paris. Maybe because of the fashion aspect of dolls or the fantasy aspect. Paris probably has more fantasy attached to it than any other major city. I know when I went I was expecting a perpetual 1920 and was sorely disappointed to see a Domino's Pizza below the flat in which I was staying.

I had a point... Oh yes, so I'm going to build a La Boheme set! I'm really excited about it. Maybe I'll get my father to collaborate with me and we can build it out of wood. Or maybe in the interest of space I'll build it out of foam core and make it collapsible. The set is very simple but making those windows will be fun and challenging. I want to make them all gritty and dirty too.

Here's a sample of what I'm thinking about:

Or with the stairs and a landing:

There I go again thinking of new projects before old ones are finished. But there's no harm in making plans...

Have a great weekend!

Introducing Ayumi

I haven't been feeling particularly inspired with stories in Grandville, but their plastic lives are being led, with or without my story telling. And I have to practice my photography so instead I'm going to do a Cliff Notes if you will, of what has been going on in Grandville and who all these new characters are. First up, Ayumi. I might give her a new name at some point. I hate keeping the Integrity name but sometimes it just happens. She is a Korean supermodel who uses her funds to support her research as an astrophysicist. She got her Ph.D. at 18. This is Ayumi's house. Well, one of them. This is Ayumi's boyfriend of 10 months, Raj Nirvana. He's a yoga instructor. They have a harmonious relationship. Still, she wonders about that girl Marie. They seem to do a lot of talking after his yoga class. Ayumi loves hanging out with her girls. Nothing quite as fun as a day of shopping. Claire sighs, "How weird to have a bank account. ...

New Goodies!

But first, some news: Projects: Still working on the studio space for Remi and Bailey. The Hubs came in and voiced what was in my head, "So where is that kid supposed to sleep? That's messed up. There's no room for him?"  The last thing I wanted in Grandville is a kid's room. I don't want this rated R world changing into something wholesome. Buuut, if there is to be a custody battle for Julian, I have to make the case, right? So on top of the studio space, I'll build a little room for the brat to use. Maybe I'll give it a fun theme or something. Space or sci-fi or something that doesn't involve sports. I'm also working on a space backdrop for Nymeria and her sister. Then I can finally introduce you. I decided to go with a sort of cheesy 60's sci fi movie thing. That's what inspired the Alurium Vaccarra anyway. So, a sort of intentionally cartoony backdrop. The last project for now is my high school. I wanted it to be a three-...

[in that spongebob narrator voice] Ten Years Later

Well friends, it's been 10 years!  I'm not sure if any of my older friends and followers still blog or still read blogs.  I've been in the BJD hobby all this time a while it was satisfying and helped me to grow a lot as a dioramist, the call of the 1/6 scale dolls called back to me.   It was hard to make stories for BJDs because of the limited number of characters and sets.  While I no longer have a town to make stories with, nor (hardly) any of my original dolls, my new collection continues to grow and some of them are just itching to tell you all about themselves.  But these heauxs don't even have names except for two.  So lemme get on that... Returning to this hobby feels a bit lonely. My doll community was here in the blogosphere, my BJD community was through youtube and Facebook. Where are you, racy playscale collectors?  Let's get back together!  Instagram feels unsuitable for my needs. I'll see if I can direct traffic here. Who k...
