My Weekend Plans

Happy Friday All!

What a great night I had. The hubs and I ordered our new luxurious king sized bed, bought new bedding and I came home to a surprise: stuff from Smidgehouse! I ordered a doll photography book and a set of lights from her and they were waiting for me, lovingly packaged. Thanks Smidgey!

So tonight, I will be lounging in my enormous bed, reading about photography. Then tomorrow I'll set up my doll room (furthermore to be called my 'studio') and try some practice shots.

But ya'll, it's payday and it's basically the Year of Luxury so what's say we buy something yeah?

I know I said I could not fall in love with any more dolls but you never have enough do you? I was not very pleased with Dynamite Girls' Vintage Vinyl Collection. They look so cartoonish this time around. But the way other doll collectors photograph them can change everything. For instance Electropop Jasper. She looked like the dorky one of the set, the lonely and unloved. After seeing some good photos, I ordered her and now she is the evil temptress of the village.

So in an effort to make a BFF for my goth teen Sooki who can pose (sorry old Skipper dolls), I must buy Vintage Vinyl Gavin.

But now I'm going to have to build a high school classroom and create a storyline. Ah, a dioramist's work is never done.

Reader participation time: What are you guys up to this weekend? Doll things, that is.

  1. So at the risk of sounding totally brain dead, can you explain to me what exactly the year of luxury entails? What are the rules (are there any)?

I'm not thinking that the next year will be that luxe for me, but I'm currently going through a total doll-buying spreeeeeeee! (and well, making stuff for them too, though I don't consider those luxuries since I have to make them LOL)

  2. Well basically me and a friend name each year instead of doing resolutions. Then our lives took different turns so we stopped sharing the same year name. So your year can be anything you want! One year was Year of the Monk. I was celibate, focused on spirituality and stayed home like all year (instead of rock star type partying). Introducing Ayumi

I haven't been feeling particularly inspired with stories in Grandville, but their plastic lives are being led, with or without my story telling. And I have to practice my photography so instead I'm going to do a Cliff Notes if you will, of what has been going on in Grandville and who all these new characters are. First up, Ayumi. I might give her a new name at some point. I hate keeping the Integrity name but sometimes it just happens. She is a Korean supermodel who uses her funds to support her research as an astrophysicist. She got her Ph.D. at 18. This is Ayumi's house. Well, one of them. This is Ayumi's boyfriend of 10 months, Raj Nirvana. He's a yoga instructor. They have a harmonious relationship. Still, she wonders about that girl Marie. They seem to do a lot of talking after his yoga class. Ayumi loves hanging out with her girls. Nothing quite as fun as a day of shopping. Claire sighs, "How weird to have a bank account. ...

New Goodies!

But first, some news: Projects: Still working on the studio space for Remi and Bailey. The Hubs came in and voiced what was in my head, "So where is that kid supposed to sleep? That's messed up. There's no room for him?"  The last thing I wanted in Grandville is a kid's room. I don't want this rated R world changing into something wholesome. Buuut, if there is to be a custody battle for Julian, I have to make the case, right? So on top of the studio space, I'll build a little room for the brat to use. Maybe I'll give it a fun theme or something. Space or sci-fi or something that doesn't involve sports. I'm also working on a space backdrop for Nymeria and her sister. Then I can finally introduce you. I decided to go with a sort of cheesy 60's sci fi movie thing. That's what inspired the Alurium Vaccarra anyway. So, a sort of intentionally cartoony backdrop. The last project for now is my high school. I wanted it to be a three-...

[in that spongebob narrator voice] Ten Years Later

Well friends, it's been 10 years!  I'm not sure if any of my older friends and followers still blog or still read blogs.  I've been in the BJD hobby all this time a while it was satisfying and helped me to grow a lot as a dioramist, the call of the 1/6 scale dolls called back to me.   It was hard to make stories for BJDs because of the limited number of characters and sets.  While I no longer have a town to make stories with, nor (hardly) any of my original dolls, my new collection continues to grow and some of them are just itching to tell you all about themselves.  But these heauxs don't even have names except for two.  So lemme get on that... Returning to this hobby feels a bit lonely. My doll community was here in the blogosphere, my BJD community was through youtube and Facebook. Where are you, racy playscale collectors?  Let's get back together!  Instagram feels unsuitable for my needs. I'll see if I can direct traffic here. Who k...
