Dani the Grouch

I've always loved Oscar the Grouch. He reminds me of my dad. If you are not his kid or grandkid, you better scram because he doesn't want to hear any of your crap. I hope to be a cranky old lady one day. Another fine quality Oscar has is that your trash is his treasure.

I am the same way. Since I was in high school I wanted thrift store clothes, I wanted everyone's cast offs. My mother remarked today at a family gathering that when our house burned down and I lost everything, she didn't have to worry about paying a fortune for replacing designer duds. As long as my drawings and writings were okay, I was too.

Even now, if anything is being given away, I'll take it, even if I don't need it.

The other day, the Hubs came home with 3 wooden wine crates. He wanted to use them for records but the are not the right size. My gain!

Not sure what to do with them yet. Diva Details on Flickr makes store windows and these might be a good framework for that. Or maybe I'll make some room boxes. Not that I have room for them but what kind of a hoarder would I be if I thought about THAT?

Iris's Barbie (Chocolate Sensation or some such silly name) is here to show you scale:

In other news, the lighthouse is still untouched. I'm working on how to remove a shelf without destroying the whole thing. I've been seeing lighthouses everywhere. Kitchen Nightmares, bumper stickers, the desktop images that came with my computer. It's a gentle reminder to move my butt on this project. But woodworking and kids really don't mix very well.

As March comes to a close, so does my maternity leave. Soon I'll be back behind a desk pushing papers for the man. And it's busy season for college applications (I work for a university), so I might be here a little less. But yes, I always say that but I just can't quit you, dolly blog!

  1. I can't wait to see what you do with the crates. Those window seats are great from the ones I've seen.

Introducing Ayumi

I haven't been feeling particularly inspired with stories in Grandville, but their plastic lives are being led, with or without my story telling. And I have to practice my photography so instead I'm going to do a Cliff Notes if you will, of what has been going on in Grandville and who all these new characters are. First up, Ayumi. I might give her a new name at some point. I hate keeping the Integrity name but sometimes it just happens. She is a Korean supermodel who uses her funds to support her research as an astrophysicist. She got her Ph.D. at 18. This is Ayumi's house. Well, one of them. This is Ayumi's boyfriend of 10 months, Raj Nirvana. He's a yoga instructor. They have a harmonious relationship. Still, she wonders about that girl Marie. They seem to do a lot of talking after his yoga class. Ayumi loves hanging out with her girls. Nothing quite as fun as a day of shopping. Claire sighs, "How weird to have a bank account. ...

Grandville Summer Festival!

Hello doll friends, First up, I gotta show you this. My 4 year old was playing with my Barbie cast-offs and set up this little scene. (That yellow thing on the table is a TV shaped eraser.) Dig the lamp she made with a wedding cake and the pole from maybe a Barbie dress form? Adorbs. Anyway, this weather (raining pretty much daily for the last month or so) has wrecked my spray painting plans. Much of the royal storyline rests on this painting project. So for now I decided to continue the other stories I have going. Enjoy: "Ho-ly crap, what on earth are you wearing?" "Aw, Sook, I feel bad enough."   "Seriously. You are wearing khakis. You look cray cray. You're like somebody's mom right now. Please explain this situation." "My boss said my outfit was too sexy so I had to borrow something from Le Skater Dork over there at the cafe. Jeez, now I owe her one. Oh crap Channel 1 News is here."   "Thanks John. Lavita...

New Goodies!

But first, some news: Projects: Still working on the studio space for Remi and Bailey. The Hubs came in and voiced what was in my head, "So where is that kid supposed to sleep? That's messed up. There's no room for him?"  The last thing I wanted in Grandville is a kid's room. I don't want this rated R world changing into something wholesome. Buuut, if there is to be a custody battle for Julian, I have to make the case, right? So on top of the studio space, I'll build a little room for the brat to use. Maybe I'll give it a fun theme or something. Space or sci-fi or something that doesn't involve sports. I'm also working on a space backdrop for Nymeria and her sister. Then I can finally introduce you. I decided to go with a sort of cheesy 60's sci fi movie thing. That's what inspired the Alurium Vaccarra anyway. So, a sort of intentionally cartoony backdrop. The last project for now is my high school. I wanted it to be a three-...
