Long Weekend!

Hello folks,

I had a nice 4 day weekend. (I took an extra day off after the holiday). I was very productive.

My husband, on his own birthday no less, took me to the dollhouse shop! It's about a 30 minute journey which doesn't sound long when I'm driving to work but somehow this seemed to take forever.

It's a great shop with lots of ridiculously overpriced beautiful things. Here's my haul:

A little lantern, ceiling medallions (wait, are they medallions if they are square?), moulding, velvet carpet, ceiling material, wood flooring, white plastic tile and little stickable paper tiles. And I spent like $100. Huh?

Anyway, I wasted no time! You guys remember the Versailles sitting room, right? Why on earth did I stick on the panels, THEN paint? I painted them white, then tried to do blue around it. Oh it was just a mess.

So I removed the panels and cleaned them up. I was just depressed at all the work, all the measuring, wasted:

So anyway I painted it all. Oh god, it looked terrible:

But then a few coats later... Eh, not so bad:

I'm not crazy about how the paneling looks, since all my little wood stirrers have warped, but it will have to do. (The painters' tape is holding down the warped edges):

But my projects did not end there!:

I put down the marble floor in Josephine's kitchen:

I put up the marble walls and floor in the Spanish house, which is no longer Spanish.

And I got my husband to spray paint the bed in the Spanish house with that "hammered" spray paint. Ignore my crooked windows. I sure do!

I managed to totally ignore the gypsy caravan, which I will post pictures of soon.

So next weekend is all about hardwood floors. Sigh!

  1. Isn't it crazy how quickly all those tiny pieces and up in $$ so quickly? LOL! I adore the blue, and the marble tile looks fab! I absolutely hate to spray paint-- wish I could get my boyfriend to do it for me! You're so productive, I can't stand it!

  2. Oh by the way my husband is only spray painting because I'm pregnant. I usually wear a surgical mask anyway but after my last paint job, even with the mask on, my nose hair was actually white. Yikes. Scared us straight.

Introducing Ayumi

I haven't been feeling particularly inspired with stories in Grandville, but their plastic lives are being led, with or without my story telling. And I have to practice my photography so instead I'm going to do a Cliff Notes if you will, of what has been going on in Grandville and who all these new characters are. First up, Ayumi. I might give her a new name at some point. I hate keeping the Integrity name but sometimes it just happens. She is a Korean supermodel who uses her funds to support her research as an astrophysicist. She got her Ph.D. at 18. This is Ayumi's house. Well, one of them. This is Ayumi's boyfriend of 10 months, Raj Nirvana. He's a yoga instructor. They have a harmonious relationship. Still, she wonders about that girl Marie. They seem to do a lot of talking after his yoga class. Ayumi loves hanging out with her girls. Nothing quite as fun as a day of shopping. Claire sighs, "How weird to have a bank account. ...

Grandville Summer Festival!

Hello doll friends, First up, I gotta show you this. My 4 year old was playing with my Barbie cast-offs and set up this little scene. (That yellow thing on the table is a TV shaped eraser.) Dig the lamp she made with a wedding cake and the pole from maybe a Barbie dress form? Adorbs. Anyway, this weather (raining pretty much daily for the last month or so) has wrecked my spray painting plans. Much of the royal storyline rests on this painting project. So for now I decided to continue the other stories I have going. Enjoy: "Ho-ly crap, what on earth are you wearing?" "Aw, Sook, I feel bad enough."   "Seriously. You are wearing khakis. You look cray cray. You're like somebody's mom right now. Please explain this situation." "My boss said my outfit was too sexy so I had to borrow something from Le Skater Dork over there at the cafe. Jeez, now I owe her one. Oh crap Channel 1 News is here."   "Thanks John. Lavita...

New Goodies!

But first, some news: Projects: Still working on the studio space for Remi and Bailey. The Hubs came in and voiced what was in my head, "So where is that kid supposed to sleep? That's messed up. There's no room for him?"  The last thing I wanted in Grandville is a kid's room. I don't want this rated R world changing into something wholesome. Buuut, if there is to be a custody battle for Julian, I have to make the case, right? So on top of the studio space, I'll build a little room for the brat to use. Maybe I'll give it a fun theme or something. Space or sci-fi or something that doesn't involve sports. I'm also working on a space backdrop for Nymeria and her sister. Then I can finally introduce you. I decided to go with a sort of cheesy 60's sci fi movie thing. That's what inspired the Alurium Vaccarra anyway. So, a sort of intentionally cartoony backdrop. The last project for now is my high school. I wanted it to be a three-...
