Fairly Useless Weekend but Long Post!

Have a seat, this will take a while. Well, it was not an entirely useless weekend, just full of false starts. I did get two packages on Saturday, one with doll hair in silver, brown and black, a little chalk for blush, bottle of sealant, one of acetone and two common colors to be used in my face-ups, brown and black. And from etsy, a couch I had been daydreaming about for a couple of weeks. This one belongs to Felix and Dani. All the couch cushions come off! Love it! I also had the creators work on a custom coffee table for me. Great prices and really great to work with. Check out their stuff! Now I have to decorate Felix and Dani's living room around it. Hell, I'll redo the whole house. I decided to attempt the dreadlocks that Corset Kitten was kind enough to write a tutorial abou t. Yeah, okay so problem #1 that I decided to ignore: I don't have wool roving. But I thought, hey mohair is wool right, so I'm sure it's the same thing. Um, no. So I'm u...

Sugar On Top

Let's talk about Sugar. She's Byron Lars Sugar Barbie. What a beauty. I got her in 2005 I think and I loved her. This was the first time I had seen "natural" hair on a Barbie and on a light skinned doll at that! She was best friends with Aoki who we will discuss in a moment. I loved Sugar. Her heinous flocked gloves were awful. As soon as I learned to rebody, I gave her the bod of that preggo Barbie. She married Chad the trumpet player (some kind of old Integrity doll with a Drag Queen "Ken" body). They even had a kid, but that made her so boring, I had to go back in time and undo it. She had become something of a B-lister in my doll world.  Chad had joined a new band, had a group of new hipster friends and Sugar became a character you never see anymore. That "natural" hair had become a frizzy mess. I had no idea how to take care of it. So I had the STUPID idea to dump a little boiling water on it to "relax" it. Stupid! She ...

Douchebag Ken

After several trips to various Target stores in the area, it became clear to me that this was no way to secure my Douchebag Ken. Carmen has spent enough time alone. So I decided to order him online. They were on sale at Target (but not Target.com) for $17 so I hated spending the extra money at BarbieCollector.com. He arrived today and I opened the package only to be disappointed. He looked crazy. But that's okay. Buy Barbies often enough and you know you have to do at least SOME work to make them usable. I was ready to get started. So begins the grievances: He doesn't have a typical Ken head. By which I mean his neck hole is a "female", like typical action figure guys, not a "male" like most Ken dolls. So that Fashionista body I've been holding onto? Useless.  (I'm sure there's some adapter type thing you clever doll folk know about but still, it's the principle!) So first, I comb him out:  I dunked and dumped boiling-ish water, ...

Photostories!

Happy New Year everyone! I've been a bit obsessed with Comic Life since I received it for Christmas. I never realized that not reading comic books can really limit you when you start to create one. Or maybe it gives you total freedom... But it's definitely different than just writing captions, which is what I was doing for a while. You really have to be succinct. Forget all the long speeches. I mean, I know it's possible. The Hubs, a comic FANATIC told me I could just use the same image 5 times and have this long speech. But I know I don't like reading all that, so I'm going to try to avoid that. Unless it's needed for comic value. So anyway, check out the new Vita Plastica site at weebly. Weebly is a bit aggravating to use but hey, it's free. Maybe one of these days I'll buy a domain but until then, I'll deal with the limitations. Anyway I've got loads of character introductions and a couple of photostories. Hope it gives you a good laugh! Muc...

Absence Make You Have More Followers

Exciting! I have new followers. And all I had to do was be a total downer and run away from the blogosphere. You know, sometimes there's a doll that you really don't like and then suddenly, you're in love. My husband, a lover of all things that he thinks will mature in value (baseball cards, records, obscure "action figures") had a couple of dolls that he felt the need to give to me. He knew they would have a better life in my hands. One of which was Hasbro's Miss Fear. I really didn't like her. Her weapons were awesome and I really appreciated the cigarette holder but her clothes didn't fit well, her hair was insane and she didn't look anything like the hot cartoon on the box. Her makeup was terrible, her "Asian" eyes were just ridiculous. So she ended up being a bit character in things. She played a bodyguard or a bouncer. She was so beefy that I never let her be a "lady". I guess Ms. Fear's life turned around when my husb...

Dolls Thinking for Themselves

I think you photostory people can attest to this. These dolls really do have personalities! Sure, we assign them a role and sometimes they attack it with relish. And when I set up relationships, I set the dolls next to each other for a few days and see what faces they make. I swear, they make faces!! They will really look disgusted or pleased. But sometimes, they just don't agree with anything you try to do. Take for example Dynamite Girl African American Heartbreaker TJ. I love Dynamite girls. They are wonderful posers and if you just tilt their head, the emotions on their face are really different. But this one has given me trouble since the beginning. I renamed her Alanna. A name I really don't like. Doesn't seem to suit her at all. It really came from a former personality I assigned to her. First she was a lawyer with a double life. One with her real estate mogul boyfriend: Another with her thugged out boyfriend from high school: Then she was a reporter: Then a dancer:...
